YOGYAKARTA. Applied Linguistics Study Program presented Dr. Raqib Chowdhury from Monash University Australia to give a Public Lecture, namely Scientific Writing for Publication. This guest lecture is divided into 6 (six) meetings, while the first meeting was held on Wednesday, 18 September 2019, and the last meeting was held on Wednesday, 25 September 2019. In this public lecture, Dr. Raqib Chowdurry discusses hot topics in language research, foreign language teaching, and linguistics. This lecture was given to 42 Masters of Applied Linguistics students who were taking the Scientific Paper Writing course in this odd semester. In this lecture, students are given permission to discuss and ask questions on the sidelines of delivering material. Therefore, students are very actively involved in asking questions and providing suggestions for new ideas in language research, foreign language teaching, and linguistics. Dr. Raqib Chowdhury provides opportunities for students to do crowdsourcing to support the effectiveness of the learning environment. In addition, the presenters also provide tips and tricks in authorship rules such as how to do hedging and chunking. With this scientific writing course, it is hoped that it can help students in conducting a good research and make publications which are dedictaed as the graduation requirement. At this time, publication is considered as difficult since the students have the difficulty in determining the new topics that are not classified as old research. However, in this public lecture, Dr. Raqib Chowdhury provides the steps before conducting a research and publishing it. Therefore, after obtaining many knowledges from the lecture, students are expected to be more motivated to read more references, research, and publish their researchers in reputable journals. (NHG)
